The Amazing Benefits of Honey
Honey! It adds the perfect amount of sweetness in your life, but you’ve probably overlooked its long list of health benefits.
It’s one of the most popular kitchen household items. If you search the back of your cabinet you might even find a bottle you had forgotten all about. Natural honey is often a perfect remedy for everyday ailments while also serving your long-term health goals.
For thousands of years, the benefits of honey have been used to treat various conditions and have even been known as the food of the Gods. Sometimes it’s a great idea to stick to the basics!
"The bee collects honey from flowers in such a way as to do the least damage or destruction to them, and he leaves them whole, undamaged and fresh, just as he found them.” -Saint Francid de Sales
Save the Bees!
Bees and other pollinating insects play a vital role in our ecosystems. However, since the late 1990s, beekeepers around the world have observed the mysterious and rather sudden disappearance and decline of bees and honeybee colonies.
The main reasons for the global bee-decline are linked to industrial agriculture, climate change, and pesticides. This is not good news for both the bees and us as humans. A third of all our food depends on their pollination; thus a world without pollinators would be devastating for our food production.
What can we do about this? One very livable action to take is shopping local for your honey and supporting beekeepers. The honey you purchase from local hives is also better for you and possesses all the nutrients that mass-produced high fructose corn syrup honey lack.

Honey & Health
Rich in Antioxidants: One of the benefits of honey is it contains important antioxidants such as organic acids and flavonoids (plant pigments). Antioxidants are linked to reduced risk of heart attack, stroke, and even some types of cancer. Lowers Blood Pressure: The antioxidant compounds found in honey have also been shown to modestly reduce blood pressure, a risk factor for heart disease. Improves Cholesterol: Honey reduces total and ‘bad’ cholesterol. It has also been shown to raise levels of HDL cholesterol, commonly referred to as the ‘good’ cholesterol. Lowers Triglycerides: Elevated triglycerides are a risk factor for heart disease and Type 2 diabetes and tend to increase on a diet that is high in sugar and refined carbs. Several studies have shown that honey can lower these levels. Sweet Tip!
Replace sugar with Honey! It is a better and healthier sugar for you. Use honey as a substitute in your daily tea or coffee and even in recipes. Burn and wound Healing: One of the known benefits of honey is its healing properties. Topical honey treatments have been used to heal burns and wounds since the time of the ancient Egyptians. Honey has anti-inflammatory effects and nourishes the wounded and surrounding tissue. It can also be applied to skin conditions such as psoriasis. The next time you have a kitchen burn give honey a try!
